⏭ Let's continue with our second topic: Corporate Venture Building in the REHAU Group – the REHAU verticals “Better Living” and “Digital Construction”.

As a leading polymer manufacturer, REHAU has a long history of innovation and a strong commitment to #sustainable #growth. For that purpose, REHAU New Ventures was founded in 2021 as the company building unit of REHAU. The focus lies on the process of creating and growing new businesses within the verticals “Better Living” and “Digital Construction”, using the resources, expertise and network of the parent company to help start-ups achieve their potential.

🏘 “Better Living” is centred around the human being with the focus on certain areas of live, like #Home, #Health and #newwork. The mission is to make #life #easier, #better and more pleasant for all age groups by delivering #innovative products, physical and digital solutions and services.

🚧 The second vertical “Digital Construction” focuses on increasing e­fficiency in the construction industry with the help of digital solutions. The goal is to create new business areas in the field of #PreFabrication, #MaterialFlow, #DigitalPlanning and #DigitalCollaboration.

Our mission is to focus on #building #business ideas into scalable ventures from the ground up. Our teams work diligently to find the biggest problems of customers, develop solutions and perform successful market entries with our ventures. During this process we always discuss with stakeholders from the industry to get real world feedback and we include strategic partners and investors. Michael Lehmann, responsible for Digital Constructions, always focuses on the #customer pain with his team to make sure new #businessmodels are relevant and solve real-world problems during preparation and execution of a construction project. In addition Dominik Forster and the better living team focus towards #endcustomers and #solutions which can help everyone of us on a day-to-day basis.

At REHAU New Ventures we want to drive #innovation as well as achieve long-term growth. Today, we are starting a short series on the topic of #CorporateVentureBuilding (CVB) and why this is important to us.

We will address the questions of what Corporate Venture Building is, the topic of CVB in the REHAU Group, how we approach CVB, what we have learned in setting up ventures as well as what measures are taken at our company to minimize the risks of CVB?

🚀 Let's start with our first question: What is Corporate Venture Building?

CVB is a relatively new concept that has emerged as a response to the challenges of the #startup #ecosystem. The approach of traditional Corporate Venture Capital (#CVC) typically involves investing into external start-ups. But since there is no direct connection between the venture and the investing company, it can be more challenging to turn a promising idea into a profitable business.

In CVB, on the other hand, the start-ups are created internally. Therefore, they are aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of the parent company, which forms a closer connection. In the best-case scenario CVB is a Win-Win-Situation: The #ventures have the added advantage of access to the parent company´s resources and expertise, which are leveraged to help them succeed. While for established companies CVB provides access to new markets, technologies and ideas, that add value to their consisting core business and help them stay ahead of the competition.

Two days with intensive communication and pitch training lay behind of some of the colleagues being part of our Innovation Lab! We just had an extensive training to enable our team even more to improve their personal communication skills, to be able to present ideas even better in the future, but also to be more convincing as a person and team behind it. This is a very important aspect in our daily work, as we - besides the responsibility to create start-ups - want to be even more convincing in talks with investors for pre-seed and seed investment rounds as well as in the interaction with the respective target group.

Here are the key insights 👀:

💭 Remember the purpose of your speech. 🗣
Your audience is the boss - always put yourself in their shoes and think about what they care about. --\>TOS is the boss

💚 Get to the heart of your message. 📰
Practice speaking to people and listen to your own speeches. You'll recognize your little linguistic tics like filler words and odd behavior on stage. Once you know them, you can address them.

🔚 Leave the stage with a bang. 🎉
The most important part of your speech is the conclusion. Summarize the most important facts and mention something that will stick in the audience's mind. Nothing is worse than an "...oookay and that was my speech, thank you!"

📢 How we tackle the topic of #NewWork in our early innovation process! 📢

This semester we conducted a seminar together with Master students from Institut für Entrepreneurship & Innovation (IEI) der Uni Bayreuth called Applied Corporate Entrepreneurship.
 
In 10 weeks the 4 teams worked on topics within the megatrend #NewWork and as first step derived opportunity areas within that field. Each team dived deep into one opportunity area in the sectors Employers, Employees, New Workforce and Tool & Collaboration.
 
In a joint ideation workshop, we generated 50+ promising ideas of which the teams had to prioritize based on several criteria such as market potential. Not always an easy decision, this is for sure. 😊
 
The 4 teams then had developed this idea, conducted a proper market sizing, interviews with the target group, screened the competition just as you would if you want to build a #venture.
 
Last week the final pitches were on the agenda, and the students really impressed us, not only by the quality of the research but also by the dedication for their topic and way they pitched to us.

Working together with university helps to get outside-in-perspective & and also some fresh mindeset. The newest generation aims very much for purpose, considers the topic of sustainability in a certain way and due to many other reasons they are a source of inspiration.
